General Info

The 8 Lakes Tour is one of our most adventurous expeditions, taking you deep into one of Mongolia's most remote and untouched wilderness areas. Hidden among volcanic mountains and dense forests, the legendary Eight Lakes are a true hidden gem that few travellers ever get to experience.

This tour combines spectacular off-road riding with some of Central Mongolia's most iconic highlights. Ride through endless steppes, mountain passes, lush valleys, river crossings, and volcanic landscapes before reaching the crystal-clear lakes of the Naiman Nuur National Park. Along the way, you will visit the UNESCO-listed Orkhon Valley, the breathtaking Orkhon Waterfall, traditional nomadic families, and Khustai National Park, home to the world's only truly wild horses, the Przewalski's horse.

The adventure also includes an exciting motorcycle ride across the Elsen Tasarkhai sand dunes and a visit to a peaceful Buddhist temple overlooking the surrounding countryside. Evenings are spent at our comfortable Husky Lodge and in the heart of Mongolia's untouched wilderness, far away from roads and crowds.

Approximately 90% of the tour is off-road, making it perfect for riders who want to experience the true spirit of Mongolia.

Day 1 –  Welcome to Mongolia

You will be picked up from the airport and checked-in at UB Grand Hotel, right in the city center (unless you have selected a different hotel during the booking). In the afternoon all riders will meet our team and receive a safety briefing for the tour. We will host a welcome dinner at Hutong restaurant at Shangri-La hotel.

Day 2 – Into the Mongolian Wilderness - Husky Lodge (300km)

Leave the city behind and journey into the heart of central Mongolia. Arrive at Husky Lodge, your cozy base surrounded by pristine nature. Along the way, experience Mongolia's vast open steppes and your first encounters with nomadic life.

Day 3 –Orkhon Valley & Waterfall (180km)

Travel through the UNESCO-listed Orkhon Valley to the spectacular Orkhon Waterfall. Discover dramatic volcanic landscapes, rolling grasslands, and traditional nomadic culture. Spend time exploring one of Mongolia's most iconic natural landmarks before reaching the next lodge or camping in the open wild, depending on weather.

Day 4 – Shireet Lake (125km)

Head deep into the legendary Eight Lakes region, one of Mongolia's most remote and untouched wilderness areas. Discover the crystal-clear waters of Shireet Lake, surrounded by forests and volcanic mountains. Enjoy peaceful walks, breathtaking scenery, and the serenity of nature far from the crowds.

Day 5 – Return to Husky Lodge (250km)

Day 6 – Sand Dunes & Spiritual Heritage (100km)

We will start heading towards Ugii lake by crossing the seemingly endless steppe. Ugii lake is a freshwater lake famous for fishing and birdlife. Enjoy the rest of the day swimming, relaxing by the lake and a nice BBQ dinner under a carpet of stars. We will sleep in our tents.

Day 7 – KHUSTAI NATIONAL PARK (245km)

Travel to Khustai National Park, home of the world's only truly wild horses—the Przewalski's horse. Keep an eye out for deer, marmots, birds of prey, and other native wildlife as you explore the rolling steppe. End the day surrounded by one of Mongolia's most successful conservation areas.

Day 8 – Return to Ulaanbaatar (90km)

It is time to make our way back to Ulaanbaatar. Once we arrive, you will have time to freshen up with a shower and relax before the evening's celebrations. If you are looking for the perfect Mongolian souvenir, we will take you to the city's best cashmere stores for some last-minute shopping.

In the evening, we will gather for a memorable farewell dinner at one of Ulaanbaatar's favourite hot pot restaurants—a perfect way to celebrate an incredible journey together. If you still have energy after dinner, we will be happy to show you the city's vibrant nightlife and take you to some of our favourite local bars and venues.
