FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIoNS

A once in a lifetime adventure is awaiting you. Of course there are many questions you might have, we have answered some of them below and will constantly add more. If you need any further information just drop us an email, we are always happy to hear from you!

WHILE ON TOUR

  • Yes, you will have access to electricity during most of the evenings at ger camps. We also carry a generator with us for nights in the open wild. A small power bank can be helpful though to be less dependent.

  • Yes, most of the time you will have coverage. Mongolia has improved its telecommunication network in the countryside a lot over the past years. On average about 60-70% of the tour you will be reachable and have access to internet. When we camp in the open wild you will however most likely not have coverage during that night. For any EMERGENCIES, we always carry a satellite phone with us too.

  • Yes, we will actually provide you with a local SIM card upon arrival, free of charge. It has 10GB of data usage which should be enough for your entire stay.

  • Yes, you can bring a drone to Mongolia without any issues. Given Mongolia’s vast and diverse landscapes drone shots always look stunning. We recommend bringing one if you know how to fly them.

  • Yes, we should normally always have enough space in support vehicles for extra camera equipment if needed. If you are talking about any larger items, please get in touch with us in advance.

  • No problem, please inform us accordingly during the booking process. Every tour is accompanied by our own chef, he will make sure everything is up to your preferences.

TRAVEL, VISA & ARRIVAL

  • Once you land we will create a Whatsapp group with all riders in there. All timings (welcome-dinner, gear fitting, safety briefing, shop visit etc.) will be communicated through that group so everyone stays in the loop. Should you need anything in specific while you are in the city our logistics manager will take care of it right away (club reservations, restaurant recommendations etc.).

  • The easiest way to get a Mongolian visa is through the government’s new website www.evisa.mn. It also lists all the countries which are visa exempt, the list is constantly growing. Germany, USA, Australia for example do not need a visa to enter for a duration of up to 30 days. You should apply for your visa no later than 30 days prior to departure.

  • Yes, our partner travel agency of choice is PREMIUMWINGS (www.premiumwings.com). They are based in Berlin and will take care of your flight inquiries right away. Just send them an email and mention Nomadic Off-Road.

  • If you are coming from Europe, the most convenient connections would be by using Turkish Airlines through Istanbul or Mongolian Airlines (MIAT) through Germany and the UK. Mongolia is currently in the process of negotiating direct flights from the US, we will announce as soon as there are news. Alternatively for Asia and Australia, there are connections through South Korea and Hong Kong.

  • Yes, we can easily arrange extra hotels nights for you before and after the tour if needed.

As we do have corporate contracts with our three partner hotels you do not need to present any credit card details in advance to them. In addition, you will receive a much better rate than you can find anywhere online.

  • Of course, just make sure you send us your flight details in advance and our driver will pick you up accordingly. That also goes for departure flights.

  • Each time of the year has its own beauty. During April and the beginning of May weather is still colder during the mornings, but it is a VERY rewarding time of the year to come. The official tourism season has not started, hence you will barely see anyone out there in Mongolia’s endless countryside. Prime time: June, July and August are the warmer summer months, with up to 30C degrees during the day and are the best time if you prefer mild bon-fire nights during the evenings coupled with lake swimming etc.

  • There is no such thing as Mongolian nature and landscapes differ a lot depending on the region we are going. For that reason, we had many riders coming more than once, to experience other parts of Mongolia. Check out our daily tour descriptions to get a better idea of what to expect. Our most frequented tours are White Lake (more lakes and river crossings) and the one and only Sands of Gobi tour (drier, longer and partially more flat passages).

GEAR & LOGISTICS

  • In case you do not want to carry protective gear all the way to Mongolia and eventually pay overweight charges on flights or lose it in transit, we do offer all equipment needed. All our protective gear is renewed every season and will be in perfect condition. We do not make any profit with rental gear, as for the entire package we only charge €175 to cover our expenses. We want to make sure your life gets easier though.

  • Yes, as we are general importer for Husqvarna we do have a beautiful store in Ulaanbaatar. We offer all sorts of equipment you might need / want to buy, ranging from camel bags to helmets, boots etc. If you need anything in specific or larger sizes than usual, just let us know in advance to make sure we have it in stock.

  • Yes, international credit cards are widely accepted while in Ulaanbaatar. You might face difficulties in the countryside though.

  • Yes, you can easily take out Mongolian Tugrik (MNT) at most of the city’s ATM’s.

  • We do provide all needed camping gear, including sleeping bags and camping mats. If you prefer a more comfortable air mattress you would need to bring it yourself. Please note that we have a maximum of three nights camping in the wild per tour (depending on weather conditions), remaining nights are spend in Mongolian gers (our traditional white, round tents), which do have a proper bed.

  • Yes, no problem. Just send us an email before the tour starts with your sizes, so we can prepare in advance. Any additional charges can be paid at our shop by credit card, there is no need to change the invoice you received or make any transfers in advance.

  • Yes, no problem. You can purchase the insurance at our shop by credit card before tour start, there is no need to change the invoice you received or make any other transfers in advance.

LUGGAGE & ESSENTIALS

  • The backpack you carry on the bike should be small and light. You only carry essentials in there like a camel bag (2l), your mobile or camera, ID, and your raincoat. All other items and clothing will be in your duffle bag, transported in our support vehicles.

  • Yes we do have a locked room at our hangar, where you can leave any luggage you don’t need while on the tour.

  • Please have a look at the recommended to-bring PDF link at the bottom of the page. It lists all the items you should have with you to be well-equipped for any of our tours.

  • Hard shell cases are not recommended as they will most likely break during the tour. They are also too big to transport as we only have limited space in our support vehicles. Duffle bags instead are dirt, water and shock resistant, which is important while camping in the open wild as those will remain outside of your tent.

BEST OF THE REST

  • Normally a year in advance or more. Our season is extremely short, only from April until beginning of October and available seats are limited. If you are planning to join during prime time (June/July/August) we always recommend to be quick.

  • No, Mongolian banks are unfortunately not there yet. Tour expenses would need to be done via normal bank transfer. You will receive a proper invoice from us with all details once you filled out our booking form online.

  • You can have a look at our Tripadvisor site, we are the number one adventure tour operator in Mongolia hosting over 200 riders each season.

  • Aggregator sites charge between 10-20% of tour prices from the operating company. We DO NOT work with any of those sites, instead spend that money on new bikes each year as well as constantly investing in your protective gear and equipment. We understand you are flying around half the globe to come here, so we want to make sure to provide you with the best possible riding experience. We do our own marketing only, if you ever see our service listed anywhere else, please inform us immediately.

  • Even though all expenses are covered in your tour charge it’s always good to have some extra cash on hand. We recommend bringing anything between €100-200 or USD$ in case you want to purchase any gifts or similar during the tour.

  • Yes, we are a 100% Mongolian company and 99% of our staff is Mongolian. The entire value chain therefore remains in Mongolia supporting local communities, service providers, hotels, ger camps etc.

  • Unfortunately that would be a no. Luggage space in support vehicles is limited and logistics become too complex. We want to ensure that the level of service is always top notch, hence our support team of six staff is laid out for 10 riders maximum per tour.

INSURANCE

  • Yes we do, working together with the best one out there when it comes to adventure travel. You can find all information here at the GLOBAL RESCUE website.
